Race Report for April 2021
We have some “real” results to share at last and our congratulations to everyone who found a race to enjoy. But to anyone wondering why you are reading about races scattered throughout April in one report, can I please remind everyone that, if you want a result putting in the week’s results listings and report and ultimately adding to the club annals, you need to email cirenacresults@gmail.com . Without the wonderful Dave Wright trawling the race listings up and down the nation to find club results, the only way we can know what you have done is if YOU TELL US!!
This weekend Rob Forbes witnessed the smashing of a World Record by one Aleksandr Sorokin when he complete a full 100 miles (or 420 laps) of the track at Ashford in a stunning 11.14.56. AND Aleksandr didn’t stop there, running on to create a new 12 hour World Record of 105.83 miles (170.3 km). Meanwhile Rob who was one of 11 invited athletes taking part, was pleased to have achieved over 50 miles at 7.15 pace but it was not his day – physically or mentally - and he had to retire after completing 83km in 6:38.
25th April, Shepperdine Marathon, 26.2 Miles Road
Nearer home we had four members travelling to Shepperdine this weekend. Brian Harris and Tom Morgan both tackled a scenic and relatively sheltered full marathon. They both started strongly (possibly too fast) but were disappointed to fail their respective targets by around 20 minutes. Tom (a trail ultra runner of some standing) only signed up for this - his road marathon debut - a couple of weeks ago and he, like so many of us, found just how hard the final miles of a road marathon can be. Brian, who is now determined to have another go at his PB in the autumn, finished 79th in 3.37. and Tom in 4.30.
1 Nicholas Coyle (Stroud & District AC) 2.23.20
79 Brian Harris (Cirencester AC) 3.37.13
139 Tom Morgan 4.30.57 146 Finished
25th April, Shepperdine Half Marathon, 13.1 Miles Road
Rob Tuttle and Rachel Barrow experienced great success in the Half Marathon at Sheperdine. Rob’s 1.49 was close to his PB and Rachel was thrilled to have an official result of 1.53 to final demonstrate and record the stellar progress she has made in the last year. With one person starting every 10 seconds it must have felt a bit strange and harder to “race” but was clearly a lot better than a virtual race.
1 Arthur Dickson-Bell (Southville RC) 1.10.55
202 Rob Tuttle (Cirencester AC) 1.49.24
227 Rachel Barrow 1.53.49 330 Finished
18th April, Dorset Ooser Marathon, 26.2 Miles Trail
A weekend earlier, Rob and Nadine Brown ran the trails of Dorset where Rob completed a marathon within 10 minutes of the winner, finishing in 7th place in 3.17.18 – a great time for an off road marathon so it’s good to see he is fighting fit.
1 Robert Eaton (South Derbyshire Road Runners) 3.06.58
7 Rob Brown (Cirencester AC) 3.17.18 256 Finished
11th April, DB Max “Chilly” 10k, 10k Road
Earlier still, Dave Bell ran the “Chilly” 10k round and round Castle Combe to also finish 7th with a time of 33.28.
1 Jack Bancroft (Bristol and West AC) 30.36
7 Dave Bell (Cirencester AC) 33.28 369 Finished
Finally the Chudley’s were back parkrunning -this time in Melbourne – both finished sub 21 minutes and in the top 50 but Millie beat Sophie by a convincing 4 seconds – watch out Sophie the era of Mum takes the lead is gone – and well done Millie!
3rd April, Albert parkrun, Melbourne, 5k Multi-Terrain
1 Erik Ueda (Unattached) 15.56
44 Millie Chudley (Cirencester AC) 20.48
46 Sophie Chudley 20.52 358 Finished
