Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club 5.1.2020
On Saturday the club hosted the County Cross Country Championships for the second year running and again Rendcomb College generously providing the venue free of charge. The day went very smoothly and the sun even shone for the senior races later on in the day. The hill at the start of the course proved a challenge for all and was praised and cursed in equal measure by runners. The support, marshalling and abundance of cake made a great event for all. There was a great turnout for the men's, women's and junior teams.
The men ran strongly to collect the team silver prize, Dave Bell coming in 4th, Bill Leggate in 6th and James Thomas ( on top of two hectic days of preparation and taking responsibility for the event) an impressive 10th overall. Tom Hunton 14th (a welcome second claim “visitor” from Swindon) and Adrian William 21st completed the first team. The strength of the men also produced a tightly packed second team with Ian Barrett 22nd, Rob Brown 24th, Mark Sysum 25th , Aaron Willis 30th, Tom Purnell 37th and Lee Lawrence 49th. There were other strong performances placing the Masters men in silver medal position.
Ollie Campbell managed a strong 4 th position in the U17's and it was a convincing win for Henry Sheffield in the U13's as well as great performances from Zachary Humphries and Tom Williams to secure the team silver medal. The U11's were also well represented with 5 runners this year - well done boys!
In the junior ladies there were two runners in the U11's and there was a fine win in the U13's for Isobel Watt. The senior women were led home by Corinne Clark who finished in an impressive 10 th place overall, closely followed by Holly Willis in 14 th then Kate Sackett who put in a strong performance to ensure a silver medal in her age group and which secured a senior ladies team position of 4 th in the league. With three to score we fielded 3 women's teams with Nea, Sarah and Jo making a strong second team. There was also a silver medal for the CAC masters team (Corinne, Kate and Sarah).
