21 July 2024, Berkeley Triathlon, 0.4km swim, 22km bike, 5km run
This week a ladies team of 4 went to the Berkeley triathlon inspired by Kate our triathlon rep, for Rachel Ranger it was her first foray into triathlon and this was her report back......When Kate mentioned getting a team together for a 'little triathlon' it didn't seem too daunting. Shivering next to the pool awaiting my start, I changed my mind. But with the team cheering me on, great marshals and a friendly, low-key atmosphere, it was a positive experience for my first multisport event. We all did well: Kate having ridden 3 miles with a puncture, Kirsty after a 7-year break from triathlon, and Amanda with her first run after injury. There's talk of another team event, so contact Kate Kilby if you're interested.
Well done ladies, it's great to see more triathletes competing for CAC!
Kate Kilby (10.35, 46.35, 25.04) 1.24.47, Rachel Ranger (12.45, 47.12, 25.34) 1.29.45, Kirsty Leggate (11.41, 57.50, 29.19) 1.42.29, Amanda Naylor (12.32, 1.01.56, 32.55) 1.52.05
21 July 2024, Yate Masters Meeting, track
On Sunday Dorian Matts and James Thomas both turned out for the track meet in Yate, the lovely sunny weather, although also a bit breezy meant for a great atmosphere. Dorian was competing in the long jump and the 100m and finished in 16.29 while James was running his first ever 5000m on the track to finish in 4th place in 17:47.00.
Dorian says....I competed in the long jump and 100m. I was not quite at maximum after straining a hip muscle during training on Tuesday, which I hoped had recovered. But the pain reappeared during my LJ run-up practice runs. But I came 2nd in my age group with my first jump, just 8cm behind my PB (set with a significant tailwind!). In the 100m, I had a good start but had to ease up from about 50m due to the pain, so 16.28s was not bad.
Another day and another track event, this time in Gloucester. Ian B reports.....Last night myself and Brecht Grieten went down to the Gloucester Open track meeting and ran both an 800m and 5000m. Fair to say Brecht underestimated his 800m ability, pulling well clear of everyone in his heat to win in a time of 2:19.99. I was a little more accurate in my prediction and finished 8th in my heat in 2:37.00.
Just 30 minutes later we both lined up for the 5000m 'B' race. Heavy legs and the exposed nature of 12.5 laps of the track made for a tough outing, but again Brecht ran strongly to claim 3rd in 18:18.99, while I hung on for 6th in 19:12.75.
20/21 July 2024, Dragon Coastal Ultra, Rhossili Bay to Cardiff Bay, 100 miles trail
Ollie Campbell took on a hundred miler this weekend and finished 13th in his debut at this distance with a time of 27.08.32 Well done Ollie!
Sunday 21st July, Wye Valley Tunnel Run, marathon
Charlie Clarke was running a trail marathon and came 17th overall and first in his age group (v60-69) on Sunday in an impressive time of 04.22.11. He reports.....I did the Wye Valley Tunnel 42km on Sunday. It was a picturesque route along the old Tintern railway track with an interesting 1.5km through a dimly lit tunnel. The route continued along the river on the other side with a variety of U-turns so you could see who was in front and behind. There were some challenging muddy patches and a few sections that required rock and step hopping. Thanks to the fact that there were only 50 odd runners doing the marathon I was able to come first in my ancient category (61 to 69). I would fully recommend the run to everyone one in the Club and I can assure you that I got quite a few “well done Cirencester shouts” along the way. Chepstow is a great weekend getaway with lots to see and do including the Norman castle with the oldest wooden gates in the country.
16 July 2024, Blaisdon 10km, road
This was a well-attended event for CAC and James W reports.....I was pleased to have run this race with plenty of gradient and maintain a sub-5min pace overall, having the oomph to cash in on the downhill second half. Also, I would add how grateful I am that the race went on the championship calendar otherwise I might never have found it, it’s a lovely old-school village race. Special mentions for Kate Jacobs winning the ladies category and Kate Kilby and Ruth winning their age groups respectively. Well done team!
Bill Leggate 37.30, Kate Jacobs 39.26 – 1st lady / FV45, Charlotte Wilton 44.21 – 8th lady, James Widdowson 48.01, Kate Kilby 49.50 – 1st FV60, Ruth Fulford 1.12.22 – 1st FV75.
