This week Kate Kilby was competing at the Ironbourne long-distance triathlon. She completed the trialthlon in 6hours 30mins (swim 00:49:25, T1 00:06:30 T1, cycle 03:30:33 T2 00:02:27, run 02:01:19). Kate reports.....An early start (up at 4:15) ready to jump off Eastbourne pier, an 8ft drop into choppy waters. What an iconic start! I was in the last wave so was at the back from the beginning. The swim was tricky, sighting and currents and chop and I was disappointed in my time. But relieved when it was over and onto the bike. It seemed like there were only 5 left in transition! The bike went out on dual carriageways then eventually onto quieter roads. They weren't closed and so a few encounters with queues for a car boot sale and tractors. The ride finished with two hills - seven sisters and beachy head then a whizz round bends back to t2. I haven't done a lot of training so the run was always going to be tough but it was supremely flat along the sea front. I was very happy to finish and was second (of two) in my age cat. Swim 49:25 bike 3:30:33 run 2:01:19 finished 6:30:17. Should allow me to qualify for GB team again. Well done Kate!
