Wind? Rain? Mud? NO PROBLEM!

16th Feb 2020

This month’s cross country went ahead despite Storm Dennis but we await full analysis of the results. Holly Willis led the ladies home with sisters Pam Wheeler and Helen Manners making up the team of three. Isobel Watt finished a strong 2nd in her U13 race with Zac Humphries in U13 Boys and Henry Broadly in the U15s. A strong men’s team finished 4th(and 2nd Masters) despite the absence of team captain James Thomas. Bill Leggate had a storming run – to finish 4th overall and over a minute ahead of Dave Bell who was 10th. Clearly the damp and muddy conditions suited Bill’s long Scottish legs. Nicely packed and not far behind were Charles Woodd(23rd), Tom Purnell (27th) and Aaron Willis (35th) with Simon Campbell making up the team of six.

Parkruns were also wet and windy but Ollie Campbell (JM15-17) won again at Chippenham and Ross Swain won at Cirencester. With over 100 runners still braving it at Cirencester, Joyce Mathews was 2nd for the club and 1st lady - her preparations for London marathon are clearly going well. Neil Morrissey, Paul Timms and Brendan McCarthy followed. Then it was the turn of young Isabella Stickney (JW10) running independently of dad or brothers to finish a strong 41st in 28.18. Barbara Thomas and Thomas McNally were both in Swindon and Jacob McAdam had a go at Colchester Castle where he finished 17th.
